What the greenery actually amounts to
Meraas puts 28 per cent of the site into open space and states that residents get over 2.5 times the usual amount of green space per person, with every villa within a three-minute walk of a park. The landscaping is organised into seven themed garden zones — Arrival, Village, Lagoon, Nature, Lost, Perfume and Edible — the last of which runs to over 2,000 square metres of planting you can pick from.
The community holds LEED Gold pre-certification, with Meraas citing 33 per cent water savings and an 80 per cent reduction in greenhouse gas emissions against baseline.
